R/C Fliers of Venice Turbine Aircraft Fire Safety Rules

  1. Club members and guests shall not fly turbine powered model aircraft if the Keetch-Byram Drought Index (KBDI) for any area within a one mile radius of the flying field is 500 or over.
  2. It is the turbine fliers responsibility to check this daily before flying. During AMA sanctioned events, this shall be the Contest Director’s responsibility.

  3. It is also the turbine fliers responsibility to follow all points of AMA document #501 “SAFETY REGULATIONS FOR MODEL AIRCRAFT POWERED BY GAS TURBINES” including fire extinguisher and water based fire fighting equipment rules. The Club will provide water based fire fighting equipment. Turbine fliers shall unlock the storage area and ready this equipment before flying. When finished flying, the equipment storage area shall be secured.

  4. The Club will not police these rules on a daily bases. However, if a turbine flier is found to blatantly disregard these rules, the turbine flier shall be subject to a 30 day suspension of all flying privileges.

  5. The daily (KBDI) shall be checked by the turbine flier using the following process:

    1. Visit the R/C Fliers of Venice website and view the status icon in the left sidebar labeled Turbine Operation

    2. Indicators are as follows:

      •  conditions are acceptable for turbine operation. The maximum KBDI is below 500 for the entire district.

      •  conditions are not acceptable for turbine operation. The minimum KBDI is above 500 for the entire district.

      •  conditions vary throughout the district and the KBDI map (below) must be viewed for closer determination. If any area within a one mile radius of the field has a KBDI value equal to or above 500, it is not acceptable for turbine operation.

FAA Registration

It has always been the R/C Fliers of Venice Club policy that FAA Registration is between you and the FAA. Though we highly recommend that you register, we do not check for registration. When you edit your Profile, you will find a box for "FAA Registration Number". If you enter your Number there, the next time you check your Profile, it will be gone. That is because we setup the Club Profile as "FAA Not Required". So, nothing to worry about. Leave it blank.
